I am considering not castrating some bulls at branding and selling them to folks with commercial herds who want good bulls at a big discount from bull sale prices. What I plan on doing is selecting our best bull calves out of the best mothers at branding and leaving them intact. Buyers will need to pay for their bull calf at that time, and I will care and feed them through weaning (November 2026) when they can be picked up. You can pick the color, like if you want black.

We will be calving here in February - April 2026. We have 160 mother cows and 8 bulls. All of our herd bulls are registered bulls, 6 black angus and 2 red. The herd is a commercial herd, with no registered cows.

Our herd is very docile and easy to manage. We only had to pull one calf last year, the rest were born without assistance. We do not even go out to check at night, they are that easy. We get rid of all open cows, all fences jumpers, and all mean cows every year. The herd does very well living off open range sage brush and cheat grass for half the year without anything else but salt.
